In only three weeks, HSMV volunteer Jim Molter transformed the main frame of an old two-story children’s playhouse into a beautiful feral and stray cat halfway house. Jim painstakingly patched the roof, cut windows for ventilation, installed new plywood walls and a downstairs screened porch. A wonderful carpeted tunnel now links the upper floor to the main fl oor and individual compartments provide private space for the temporary residents. Weather stripping, paint and a sturdy concrete block foundation will help preserve the “Cat’s House” as a safe, comfortable and humane environment.
“We’re winning the battle,” says Molter. “The spay/neuter program is the most intelligent and humane way of controlling the feral and stray cat population and both educates the public and creates a long term solution.” Jim Molter and his wife provided the finances for this project as well as the elbow-grease. |
